Chelsea’s Latest Signing Updates: Jhon Duran and Pedro Lima

Chelsea Nearing Deal for Jhon Duran

Chelsea has verbally agreed to another signing while negotiating for Jhon Duran, according to Fabrizio Romano. The player’s agent is set to travel and finalize the details, signaling a “here we go” moment.

Duran’s Desire to Join Chelsea

Recent reports indicate that Chelsea is making significant progress in their discussions to sign Duran from Aston Villa. New manager Enzo Maresca is keen to strengthen his forward options. The Colombian international netted eight goals in 37 appearances for Unai Emery’s side last season, showing potential but not quite filling the role of a leading striker Chelsea desperately needs.

Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart would be taking a calculated risk if they secure Duran, as he is considered a step down from the world-class targets they previously pursued. Chelsea was in the running for Victor Osimhen but decided against meeting his £113 million release clause. They also missed out on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who renewed his contract with his current club despite Chelsea’s offer.

With their failed attempt to sign Sesko, 20-year-old Duran has become the most viable striking option, and negotiations are ongoing. Chelsea’s strategy of acquiring young, exciting talents continues, as evidenced by their recent signings of players under 23 since Todd Boehly’s takeover in 2022.

Recent Signings and Targets

In recent weeks, Brazilian starlet Estevao Willian from Palmeiras has reportedly agreed to join Chelsea. Additionally, reports suggest Chelsea is targeting Sport Recife’s Pedro Lima. Chelsea has apparently beaten Tottenham and Atletico Madrid to Lima’s signing, with the 17-year-old set to turn 18 and become eligible to move to west London.

Romano’s Update on Pedro Lima

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Lima as Chelsea finalizes the deal. According to the reputable transfer journalist, Chelsea has verbally agreed to sign Lima, with the agent traveling to finalize the details.

Details of the Lima Deal

Romano confirmed the agreement, saying, “Chelsea verbally agree to sign Brazilian 2006-born right back Pedro Lima from Sport Recife, here we go.” The deal will be completed via Chelsea’s affiliate, Strasbourg, for a €7 million fixed fee plus €3.5 million in add-ons. Lima’s agent is expected to travel to finalize the details.

The teenager has made 26 senior appearances for Recife, scoring two goals and providing two assists. He can also play as a right-winger, adding versatility to Chelsea’s future squad.

Conclusion

Both Duran and Lima represent Chelsea’s commitment to building a young and dynamic team. While Duran aims to bolster the attacking lineup, Lima’s versatility and potential make him a valuable long-term asset. These signings highlight Chelsea’s ongoing strategy of investing in promising talents to secure their future success.
